URGENT HELP NEEDED - CAN I DRIVE MY CAR TO GAYDON??

How gutted am I, not had the Golf for four months (wife has it at mo') Turn up to collect it last night and she had neglected to tell me the wheel bearing is on it's way out!

It's humming a like a good-un - on the rear - sounds almost like there's a vacuum cleaner running in the back of my car. Question is, do you think it will be safe to drive the 200-300 miles I'll end up doing this weekend or is my wheel likely to fall off?!! :dontknow:

Any advice appreciated - dont want to come without the Golf but equally I want to make sure I get there in one piece!

Not sure got the time to sort today - plus rear discs - is that not a lot more time consuming? (I assume they're off a MK2?)

Ahhhh - you non standard boys!

Thing is it might be fine - or you might knaker the sub axle as the bearing usually spin when they lock and weld to it - Ask Phill  8O

If it is really noisy all the time i'd avise no.

If it is only noisy when goung around a corner I'd risk it.

Small print: warning - listening to crazyquiff may endager life, do not pass go.

I bottled it!!!

Because of a stripped thread I changed both rear drums and wheel bearings on Friday. As I have never done it before I decided that I didn't want to find out that I'd done it wrong on the M25.

They seem ok though.

Couple that with moving house on Wednesday and living in a sea of boxes I decided it was a no go.

The photos are brilliant though, feels almost like I was there…

  yep, makes a lovely mess of the axle when the bearing welds to it at 70mph!

sounds like you might be lucky Hairy… while your there get some anti-rust primer on that sill
