Upgrading Suspension - so many options

Hi everyone

Ive recently bought an 83 GTi which is on hottuning coilovers, the look of the car i like but the ride is brutal.

i want to upgrade to something with better ride quality but with the ability to lower the car.

Koni sports with eibach springs seem a popular choice but how low will the ride height be? currently the front tyres are just into the wheel arches, i dont need them to go this low but i like it lowered.

alternatively theres fk konigsports which also seem to be popular?

just wanting some ideas really?

THanks

Oh yeh the car is used for road use only, spirited road use mind!!

Koni sports with eibach springs

Its the way to go , ride height about -30mm from standard . If you lower a MK1 to a lets say a slammed of the deck level , ride is compromised and no matter what suspension you decide to use ride will suffer . Tyre size choice also affects ride [more tyre wall means more cushioning] .

Have you tried raising the coilovers slightly ?

thanks

the tyres are very low profile with a slight stretch on them which wont help i imagine.

i havent tried to raise the coilovers, i think the hottuning coilovers are known for being really hard so i think it would be better to upgrade.

i dont think ive seen a mk1 close up at standard height, what sort of distance would you be looking at from the wheel centres to the arch running koni with eibach?

also there are standard height koni's or shortened koni's, is it the standard ones to go for?

thanks again for the help mate

I did a lot of reading on shocks and came to the conclusion KW V1's were the ones to go for. Fortunately when I found my Golf they were already fitted, give a nice ride.
