Tyres, New ones fitted today
I run 195x50x15's and I now feel the wife would now drive the Golf without complaining.
I bought 4 toyo proxies T1-R's off www.mytyres.co.uk uk for ?132 and had the tracking done, over the moon.
I'll let you know how they wear/handle but first impressions excellen,t but my old tyre were past there best!

When I got new tyres they didn't feel nearly as squashy and when I checked they were only 28 beans!

As the old onwer had the car 4 years and did about 6000 miles not suprising
I would suggest you all checking your tyre age as it may be the cause of heavier than usual steering 8O

Its mainly as I end up having to do some sort of work at the front and then don't get round to getting the camber set up again until its too late for the tyres. I've done 10k between changes this time. Every time I get new tyres the steering's alot lighter for a couple of months but then seems to get steadily heavier back to how it was before they got changed! I'm pretty sure its not because the camber/tracking is wrong unless I've been stitched up by the 3 different garages I've taken it to.
The tyres I've been through so far are Pirelli P600's, Pirelli 5000 Dragos and Avon ZV3s. The P600's were noisy and bad in the wet. The P5000's were great alround and so are the Avons.
The '83 is running Hankooks and the grip is really good.
The sportline has Toyo Proxies but I havent had it on the road long enough to see what they're like yet! The fronts really need replacing anyway.
What are others experiences????

I had a Alfa 155 which used to eat tyres the best I ever used were michelins for staying consistent over there lifetime but they are expensive only fitted them because there was a deal and they cost the same as dumlop sports at the time!!
I'll get the cmber checked soon just to be on the safe side.

mine wire bold on the inside edge at the front so that didn't help.
That definately means you need the camber + tracking doing, so get it done asap if you havent already. Was your car finding every pothole and wandering about a bit before you had the tyres changed? Thats a sure sign.
