Trouble Finding Correct Gearbox. Help!!

Hey. I am after some advice on what gearbox to buy for my Golf.
She has had the BAM engine conversion from the Ibiza Cupra. My diff has practically exploded, so me and my friend are currently working on getting her roadworthy again.
The engine conversion was carried out by the Phirm under the previous owner. When asking the previous owner on what to fit, he said the box was a VR6.
So £80 later, and the VR6 box does not fit.
I did some ringing around and get told either a MK3 16v box, or a G60 box would fit.

Some one has told me to find a CRU2014 gearbox, but it don't seem to exist.

Any actual real answers on what I should buy next? I wanna be out in the nice weather we are currently having!!

that box SHOULD fit assuming the one you have now is a cable shift type. VR6 is also cable shift but bellhousing is different due to the VR6 engine being a different shape. if the box you have now is 02j then the cable shifter ends are different to the 02a, but you can swap to suit the basic box is the same.

what it could be is you have an 020 gearbox, which would explain why the diff has eaten itself.

I believe the original box was an 02a, but some idiot scribed all ovger the serial number, making it illegable.

Apparently the diff on the box in the ebay link is too wide/long?

I'll try get some photo's up later on.
I just need the correct box, then she will be roadworthy in 2 hours….

If you need it I have a 02J gearbox, cables and selector for a  1.8T AGU engine all removed from a Mk1 that I broke earlier this year.

After a few phone calls I've been told the box I need is an 02J.
Anyone think this will defiantly fit? I can't be doing with spending more money on gearboxes which may not fit.
I've phoned the phirm, who did the engine conversion, but they don't supply parts, so that option has gone out the window. Unless anyone know of a specialist who will supply and fit a gearbox for me…..

02a and 02j are the same, its just the shifter tower that can differ depending on the age of the car. also some have 108mm flanges, if so you swap them for 02a/early 02j 100mm flanges

02J will fit ,mine has sold to Adam but he has since relisted it for sale under 1,8T conversion parts have a look

This is my final attempt. I don't actually know what I'll do if I can't get a gear box!!
I've had so much misinformation I'm starting to loose faith Haha.

I've checked against some pictures online, and it looks like an 02J to me. What you think?

yup that looks liek an 02j to me!

so yes, any 02a or 02j will fit perfectly. measure your driveshaft flanges though, make sure they're 100mm. if they're 90mm then you have a set of rare as hell 90mm flanges off early passat, this could be why its been a struggle! the flanges should swap over though. if they're 108mm, then somethign has been dont to your shafts to accept mk4 golf 108mm CVs, or some kind of other jiggery pokery has happened
