Tips: Clutch centering / clutch centreing / fitting gearbox

The gearbox went straight on no probs :D Was worried this would not be the case given I had no clutch centering tool but here's how I did it…

Fit clutch plate and loosely fit the flywheel so the pressure from the flywheel bolts are nipping the plate.  By hand, you can then move the position of the plate.   Get a ruler.  Jiggle the plate about until the distance from the outer of the splined part of the plate to the flywheel inner (ie the hole where the clutch plate protrudes from) is the same all round.  Tip: get your head right in there to be really accurate - there's room!!  Then diagonally and gradually torque up the flywheel bolts and measure it all again to check - if all still the same it's job done :D

Talking of the gearbox, it's heavy(ish) and awkward but I managed to get mine propped onto a block of wood on top of the trolley jack, which was offered up to about the right position then manhandled from above.  Mind your fingers.  Very satisfying when it plops into place!

Cheers

pretty sure you can also do it with the right sized socket on an extension. Had to do that myself before :D
