Tiny Leak coming from gearbox??

Post

Today I went out to the garage, started her up and left it running for a couple of minutes then turned it off. Opened the bonnet and heared a small drip. Went under and saw a tiny puddle of clear/light brown liquid. It was coming from the bottom of the housing of the gearbox where it is sectioned into 2. Wiped it off, and ran the car for another 2 mins and it hasn't dripped since, left a piece of paper under there to see if it happens over night. Been an hour and still no drip, anyone have a clue what it could be? :(

Have you checked for any leaks from the upper engine or cylinder head dropping down onto the gearbox?

a coolant leak from the flange on the front of the cylinder head for example?

I have experienced a similar leak from mine thinking it was an oil leak. Coolant was leaking down from this flange down the block to the bottom part of the gearbox casing!

Will check tomorrow and keep updated! I checked the engine bay and couldn't see any obvious signs but will have a proper inspection :)

Been under the car it it looks like its leaking from the gear selector rod bearing that is attached to the gearbox, is there some sort of seal I need to replace? Cheers :)

Yeah I've had a bad cold these past two weeks, so my sense of smell isn't the best, but I've checked everywhere else under the car: inner drive shafts, gearbox casing. And the the leak is deffinatley coming from the selector shaft oil seal, I've been trying to find one for my 1.3 Driver, went on Volkswagen Heratige and found one but not sure if it's the correct one. Does anyone have a link to the specific part? :) Luke.

Cheers :D found the part, and ordered. Any tips on how to remove the old oil seal as there is a rod that goes into a gearbox and I'm not quite sure how that comes out of the gearbox. I have separated  the main selector rod from the smaller one that goes in the gearbox? Cheers :)
Luke.

thread a cuple wood screws into it, then tug it out with pliers. or if you can get a good grip on the brass retainer just pull that out and the seal comes with, assuming you bought the full kit with a new bush?
