car wont move and cant get 4th and 5th gear, just makin a weird noise!!!!

Chill, it might just be the linkage needs adjusting, if its both 3rd and 4th which have gone. The check would be to see if you can select it by directly manipulating the selector at the gearbox, after the linkage has been disconnected. To double check, jack both wheels up and run the car to see the relationship in speed between engine and road wheels. If you can select the other gears and the car drives fine, it won't be the driveshaft, in any case these are reasonably accessible for checking (low down/underneath). Breaking up a CVJ isn't so bad, its about ?30 for a new inner joint etc and a much easier job than a gearbox swap.

could be the clutch mate i lost drive in my mk2 and could not get any gear , put a new box on the found i had snaped abit off the clutch plate .

had my car looked at today and it looks like the CV joint has gone!!
