the golf wont go into reverse what so ever.

hi guys, im new to this forum and new to the mk1 golf as i ve only owned it a week.

Now the day i bought it all the gears were working fine with no problems, apart from the gear stick being a bit sloppy,
but now i cant get the car to go in reverse at all.

ive had a read around the forum and searched for related topics although all i can find is people having trouble with 5th?

obviously its a really annyoing situation as i cant park the car! i have to push it backwards like the 'flinstones'.

its a mk1 golf gti gearbox and if anyone has any advice and ideas, then sling them this way.

have a read through old posts in the engine/ running gear section FAQ  .  sounds like you will need to replace the linkage bushes , and check that everything is connected up right ,    there is a 'HOW TO '  write up …….
  nothing to major ,  if you get stuck post up …..

hi, sounds like the pinch bolt at the bottom of the gear stick has come lose and has moved, so the selector wont go past the gate into reverse. Is 1st ok? normally puting it into 1st then reverse can help.

well i ordered a new bush kit just for peace of mind anyway, which arrived this morning.
so il have a go at fitting that next week.

ok il have a read and another research and see what i can find.  8O
