my mk2 golf had all uprated bushes and front upper and lower strut brace rear strurt, and sat on avo's coilovers it was nuts, handled like nothing i've ever driven before or since, i loved it, but that was on smooth roads. i f ing hated it most the time, but for those 90 sec's of good tarmac it was worth it,

in the end i changed the shocks to raceland shocks and springs(i think)
still handled well, but it was a pleasure to drive all the time, and still felt quite stiff, but that was cos everything was polly bushed up etc

you ether got to put up with it or bin the coil overs, they are really more suited to track days and non everyday use cars, thats my 2 pennys worth

Big debate… which coil overs???

As above, depands what you want from the car. If you really want comfort then a set of OEM springs and shocks is best.

Any form of lowering will mess with the ride.

I have hot tuning cheap coils on mine, they are harsh at times, but not really too harsh. I've run a mk3 on supersport…. ugly! VR6 on wietech, they were firm and a mk4 on spax, they were sweet!

I can put up with the current set up as I hardly use the golf :-(

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

I am looking to purchase a set off ebay want to go low not too fussed over the rider as I am running 40mm springs on bilstein shocks!! also going to go for a lower profile tyre currently on 195/50/15 looking to go to 45's due to scrubbage on the drivers side back wheel also have 10mm spacer plates on the hub! Looking to drop 60-80mm any recomendations?

I got the Hot tuning coils on dude. I have no problems with them.
Running 20 mm spacers on the rear, arches very close, but a few hours with a grinder  will sort that!

I have had to think long and hard about this aswell even more so as budget was not a factor should make it easier you would think ?

Nope i think it would have been easier on a tighter budget. I went for in the end a set of KW V1s (Stainless Version)

The reason is i cannot find a bad report about them and my club mate has a set on his Rallye and the ride is amazing yes lots of money but i shopped around and got them for a £630 from Awesome who were by miles the cheapest and i rang loads of people up.

Good luck on what you decide.
