Suspension problems!! My cabby is terrible atm HELP advice needed!!!

Post

hi all,

Ive made the novice mistake of buying cheap 200 pound coilys, and to say the least the ride comfort is terrible if not on a nice flat tarmaced road.

Theres some GTI struts and eibach springs i know are up for sale of a 1983 cabriolet, the advice required is will they fit my 1993 standard 1.8 cabby??

and anyone think theyll ride well?

There in very good condition.

Thanks

They will fit, most shocks and spring will ride better than cheap coilovers…

worth fitting some new strut tops while the struts are out the car (you will need spring compressers)

I've had a set of coilovers on my mk1 now for a couple of years. They are TA technix (cheap of the bay).

The ride is pretty bad, scuttle shake is terrible on rough roads. My tyres are 165/45/15 so that doesn't help, neither does the 45psi pressure I need to help prevent pothole damage to the wheels.

I'm re-thinking my wheel/tyre and suspension setup now that I'm getting older and want a more comfortable mk1.

Has anyone found any good coilovers which aren't too  rough on ride? I have a 1998 Audi A6 on coilovers and the ride is sooo much better, I can actually depress the suspension on the corners and it's not the tyre deflecting! The A6 has FK's.

It would be nice to keep it on coilovers for the adjustable stance, however if it comes to it, comfort will prevail I think and shock/springs may be the way forward.

I've ran lots of different makes of coilovers on different cars all sub £500 sets ride bad they are bound to I ran fk's on my current mk1 they were hard bouncy and harsh these were the Koni stainless version to I now run h&r coilovers there smooth no bouncing, firm but not hard and the car tucks in nice it's transformed the drive its actually nice to drive the car
