I drove a mk1 cab without, and my tin top Gti has upper and lower front braces, I can tell the difference!

The lower front is the one to go for first. It will tighten up the front end.

Was considering one of these for my MK1 when it's finished but might just go without seeing as I have a lower one as well. Will drive it for a bit and see how I get on :)

Had top and bottom on the golf, also had them on other cars, honestly have never noticed any difference, maybe I drive too slow, but would always fit the bottom on a mk1 cause the wishbone mountings do seem to lack support.

Definitely worth it on a cabby. Late model cabs had the lower one fitted as standard.

I have an omp lower one, it does the job.

Projekt Frustration :

White 1991 Clipper. Lowered over polished zender rims, Single 40 dellorto on lynx manifold, kent cam, full stainless 'zorst / manifold, powerflex bushed and braced. Not the fastest car, but sounds super nice!

Still going after 12 years… never said it was a quick fix! Time is not my friend.

Hey,
Just wondered what's classed as a late model? I have a 1990… Would this mean I should have one as standard?  :|

I think by "late" the reference is towards the sportline models, these were fitted with them from the factory.
So, I guess this answers the original question, they are worth fitting.
I also have the upper brace along with numerous other chassis mods on my clipper.

Ta Chris, don't suppose you could advise a good place to source them from? Had a look under the car earlier today, couldn't see one  :(

I have an omp one, sourced from a spot on ebay, just search "mk1 brace" or similar, you should get a few options.

Personally, i am looking at replacing the omp with the Nuespeed item awesome GTI are selling, as I already have a similar top brace in carbon fibre!

Much appreciated, have saved this info for a rainy day… Going to tend to some other components first and then look towards the enhancements I'm after : )
