Streeeeeeeeetch!!!

So,
on my mk1 at the mo i have 14" mk3 steels. At the moment i have 195/60 on them.

I am getting the hottuning coilovers and i have always liked the stretch look. Because my funds are low and i can get cheap tyers i want to put a little stretch on these……(see pic with the 195/40) I am also gunna kick out the wheels to fill the a arches.

So for a stretch do i need 185/40 or 185/55 or what?!?!?!!

for a stretch you need to reduce the width of the treat touching the tarmac, eg, if you have 195 40's on it at the moment, then in order to get a stretch on the tyres you need to reduce the 195mm bit, so if you want an inch less then that would be a 170 or a bit more then youd want a 165 and then if you wanted to make the tyres a lower profile then you need to reduce the 60 bit of it, the 40 means the amount of wall of rubber between the edge of the rim and the start of the tread. going lower than 40 would give u a ruddy hard ride so if you want a stretch id say go for a 55 or lowest a 50.

excessive stretch can be dangerous, heard of tyre blow outs due to too much pressure against the outer walls of the tyres, and the more you have the less rubber o road contact you have=less grip,

good luck with the search! keep us posted!!

hope this helped. if it didnt… lol

you need a wide rim, the stock rims are not that    you need a 7" plus rim for any kind of stretch, but realise its far from ideal, some love some hate it - like me - as i find it a bit dangerous esp when folks run very narrow tyres..
