stiff clutch pedel

slowly sorting out the golf now and the clutch pedal is soooo stiff its a job to press down. any ideas as to what may be wrong the golf is a 16v kr engine with im guessing a 5 speed box. also the gear stick is like a pudding stick, so hard to find a gear its untrue. stuck with this now so help would be gratfull

I had the very same situation but that doesn't mean the cure will be.

For problem 1.
Fitted a new clutch cable and made sure it was adjusted correctly.

For problem 2.
Fitted a new full set of gear selector bushes as pictured below. I'm sure you can work out which is which.


Only cost a quid and now the gear selection feels like new, well almost.
Again this worked for me but you could well find that your solutions are completely different.
If in doubt, find a good VWDUB mechanic local to you and ask his advice.
