steering rack differences , jetta gli, gti and caddy

hi , heres my little problem

i have a mk1 caddy 1.6 petrol , im fitting a kr 16v atm so today i bought a 5 speed linkage from a mk1 jetta gli spec.

now i have been told by a friend that fitted the kr i have bought in his mk1 and when he did that he had to buy a gti steering rack to fit a 5 speed linkage..he sold the linkage seperately to the engine i bought off of him

will my jetta gli linkage fit onto the mounts of my 1.6 petrol caddy steering rack?
