Steering pulls/jerks violently.

Today on my drive home my car started to pull sharply to the left. It is not constant. It jerks the wheel from my hand when steering slightly right? Its dark and snowy outside so i have not checked obvious thing syet, but anyone have any suggestions to check first? Or the solution perchance!!?

I will check the obvious things like tyre condition and that the wheel is actually attached. But it seems more serious than than tyres……?

Any help appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Could be a cv but I've had bulges in the tyre cause similar experiences.

CV joint seems the likely culprit…our Clipper did that (got a bit scary) took it to Volksline in Canterbury and it broke up completely just as we pulled onto their forcourt !!!! We replaced ALL the joints - if one is on it's way out the others will soon follow….

Owning a Mk1 cabby is a vertical learning curve…

1989 Mk1 Clipper 1.8 automatic - Sadly now up for sale - medical issues dictate)

1999 (Nov) Passat S Saloon 1.9 TDI (AFN) - TUG 1 (Remap by CCC ( - **** …..change pants !!) with cruise control

2000 (Mar) Passat Sport Estate 1.9 TDI (ATJ) 5 speed automatic with Tiptronic - TUG 2 (Remap and cruise control by CCC)

Thanks for that will get it checked out soon and booked in, problem being I am in the Alps now and I know the local garages will struggle to find the parts!? Big job or simple swapping of parts?

Well thanks again, i have checked it all over and does seem to be coming from the CV joint, nothing else majorly obvious thats for sure.
