steering column issue
right im rebuilding my car and doin engine swap etc. So ive changed steering racks too, had to take the old column out to pull a large spline shim off, so i could swaps stalks and barrels over(running mk3 barrel and stalks).
Well its all put back together however it seems like the steering shaft sits about 1.5cm further down, so the bearing in the ignition barrel doesnt slide onto plastic runner. Im not really sure whats goin on, and its the same which ever barrel i use.
Any ideas?
cheers

That's a weird issue, but it looks like you've wrecked the steering column in the process of removing, storing it, then refitting. They have a collapsable section inside, for safety reasons, and it looks like you've partly collapsed it. Other than that, I can't see how on earth something (eg) 30" long before you removed it, is now 29" long.

surely if it was collapsed i wud be able to tell from looking at it?
yeah all connected up.
only thing i can think is that the splined bit on a mk1 golf rack is different to that on a caddy. as im using a mk1 steering rack and everythin else is mk1 caddy.
