Standard steels over GTi front brakes?

Bit of a noob question for you all

Do standard MK1 golf steel wheels fit over the calipers on a GTi (VW11's) ?

Be aware that some steels like those from a Polo won't fit. Tried some '81 Polos wheesl on a '81  1100 Golf C and wheel caught caliper. Think Polo had narrower wheels (13x4.5?) or different offset?? You should be fine with steels of a Golf.
