Speedo drive problem

Hello when i bought my mk1 1.5auto all was good but the speedo didnt work we fought simple it would be a cable or the insert in the gear box. as we found they were both ok and its the plastic drive wheel in the gearbox spins on its shaft has anybody got an idea on how to repair it?
