did the gear box oil on my car ,filled up the gear box oil were the speedo cable goes in (done it loads of time),the speedo drive has fallen off in to the gear box

fished it out about 4 times but could not get it back in to the hole it seats in. :banghead:

the last time i dropped it disappered ! can not see it any more.

what should i do ? i have been out in the car all the gear are ok ! whats going to happed ??? can the end of the gear box be taken off ?

nope it's scrapped. sell you gx to me for a fiver.
if the drive was worn to the point of not staying connected to the cable then it's time to change it anyway. i know of people who have left a dropped speedo drive in the bottom of the box but do you really want to chance it?
get a mini grabber and go fishing is all i can suggest mate.

might be worth draining the box again and having a look though the actual fill hole on the end of the box. not what you want to hear i know.

drained the oil ,looked in the side plug !

should i get a air line in there or will it push it more in to the gear box ?

even when i get it out i can not get it back in !!!!!

you could have had it for less than ?5.00

Why didn't it fit properly the first time?

sounds like the circlip was missing off the cable, the gear should clip firmly in place.  loosing a gear in a box is pot luck, either it will be chewed up by the box and you wont have a problem, or a bit will get stuck in the wrong place and jam it in/out of gear. choice is yours ;)

i don't think there was a circlip holding the drive on to cable ,is the clip on the cable or drive ?

thanks

the clip goes on the cable, then the gear pushes over the top. should take a good yank to remove!  getting the gear to sit right inthe box can be fiddly, takes a good wiggle and a push till it sits right., shouldnt need any force, and if you notice the plate isnt sat flat when doing the bolt up try again!

The gear on mine dropped in once, I took the box out to get a better look and managed to get it out! After that I got told on here that it does happen from time to time and they just get broken up and dont do any harm, just change the gear oil at next service! Well that what I was told, choice is yours!

used a lambretta inner rear brake cable, pushed it in were the speedo cable goes in,the brake cable is about 3mm thick but flexible so you can bend it and still get some force on it

got the new drive in today, all ok
