slipping clutch

im new to all this, can anyone advise me on the slipping clutch in my mk1 gti. do i need a new one or can i adjust it??????????????????????????????

You can adjust the cable - its a 5 minute job. Adjust it so you have some free play in the pedal, then you know its not slipping due to being partially disengaged. The adjustment's at the front of the gearbox, right next to the starter motor and you'll need a 17mm spanner.

If it still slips then its probably time for replacement. Some people have 'washed' a contaminated clutch disc with Coke, but I wouldn't recommend this.
