oh me...oh my
It is not my day, the wife punctures a tyre on the mazda and takes the golf for her commute. After a day sorting out the £110 new rear tyre, the golf is returned with a buggered gearbox.
I am not sure exactly what happened but in the process of changing down from 5th to 4th, something went wrong. The result is that the gearbox has gone very slack, reverse gear and 5th seem to have gone altogether. I can get it into gear without using the clutch.
Car insurance needs renewing shortly and so I am just in need of some idea of what may have gone wrong and how much it will cost me to have a garage fix it.
I suffer a long wet northern winter and now the sun is here, the summer car is idle…arghhhh
Anyone any ideas or thoughts?

I think it's one of the ball and socket ones, but worth checking out the rest of the bushes. A complete kit can be had for about £6.00..

I am not sure that I am going to be able to complete this myself but at least I can be a bit more confident when I take the car into the garage. It needs a service anyway….
