sick of my heavy clutch

The clutch on my K reg cabby is getting really heavy. I mean really really heavy, and I want to sort it out. Before I do, thought I'd better ask a spot of advice.

I kind of figured that just fitting a new clutch cable will sort the problem, but might it be that I need a whole new clutch? Anyone done this recently who could give me a spot of advice?

Hi, its more likely to be the springs in the pressure plate that have become stiff causing your heavy clutch.
By all means try a new cable first as its cheaper and easier to do and there is a slim chance this may rectify the problem.
But get it sorted quick as you run the risk of pulling the whole cable through the bulk head, especially if the cable snaps.
Hope this helps!  :D

Ta - that's really helpful. I'll do the cable tomorrow and if that doesn't fix it I'll go for the whole caboodle.

Cheers

The clutch on my cab had got really heavy, so much so the cable did the old trick of pulling through the bulkhead (easily fixed!!).  The pressure plate spring work hardens over the years, changing the clutch made it better, but half an hour in traffic is still like going to the gym. Going the whole caboddle will make it better bit don't expect miracles, its never going to be as light as a Nissan Micra clutch.

Cheers
