shock insert for coilover????

right guys just had the cabby in for mot and unfortunately the front drivers shock is gone.
problem is car has been fitted with coilovers by previous owner.ive stripped them out but cant find any make
stamped on them. springs have a marking 170-60.also on outer strut there is a sticker which reads 60 vw 01f auftr no.803.
the shock insert has no make either but on top it has 20x40x11.2 (possibly giayin)??
question i need answering is will a standard insert fit or will i need an insert somehow tailored around the sizes above.
ive never seen a standard one so hope it aint a silly question.. :dontknow:
any help appreciated.

How was the insert held in? I have KYB inserts in mine. Just because it's had the coilover conversion welded to the outside shouldn't affect the insert.

thanks yeha
not sure what you mean by welding.dont think theres any welding done.
inserts are held in by cap over the top and the inside of the strut is also threaded.the cap screws into the strut.
im sure it was a kyb standard mk1  insert at the local motor factors and it measures  around 40mm(cant remember exactly now)longer therefore wouldnt even sit fully into the outer strut.can i buy one thats shorter??
these are fully height adjustable coilovers and look like they come as a unit without any welding??

any other advice?
