second gear

Hi im having trouble geting second gear the bushes are all new and its full of oil any ideas ps its a 1.8 gti 5 speed cheers gaz.

when the linkage bushes got change did you have second afterwards.
it could be simply it's not lined up properly.
or it could be that the sync mesh on second is dead.

Isn't one to two the weak point in the syncro anyway?

At low load ie down a hill, try pulling out of 1st and pulling into 2nd, if it doesnt go in put your foot on the throttle more and more until you have the revs you left 1st in. That way if it jumps in its more likely sync buggery and not alignment or vice versa. The old golfs are surprisingly easy to drive without use of a clutch!

- Gear linkage not adjusted properly
- Clutch not fully disengaging (adjust cable)
