Running Low on Coilovers

Not one for the purists but i am trying to run my '92 Cab very low on 13" ATS Classics.

I have fitted Koni Coilovers which are wound down pretty low but still have 20mm to go on the thread, but the o/s drive shaft is touching on the chassis leg already and the anti-roll bar is touching on the floor.

Has anone else had similar problems?  I can cure the chassis leg by grinding off the seam and seam welding but there is no way i can go any lower looking at the anti-roll bars, but there are cars i have seen which appear to be lower than mine is now.

You could mount the anti roll bars underneath the wishbones instead of on top - this is something I though about doing on mine as the angle they approach the wishbones at is quite considerable! Would put a lot of stress on the brackets and bolts rather than the wishbone though - You may break a few brackets!

As for the chassis leg - I havent checked mine  8O

Mine is actually knocking on the chassis leg.  I dont really want to butcher the car though, but i am going to have to cut the lip back on the chassis leg and weld it.

The only thing i can think off is the space the rear anti-roll bar bracket down to clear the floor, but this would increase the angle even more.

Other people must have come accross these problems, there are some seriously low Mk1's around, i was hoping to go down further with my Coilovers and further still with some different top mounts.

If you are going to go that low, then it is for show purposes, surely. You can't drive a car that low as hard as you normally would - you'd damage it!

If that is the case - take the ARB off completely. At the angles it is working at, it is going to start popping brackets off the wishbones sooner or later anyway!

As for the Drive shaft, I think people resort to modding the chassis leg quite severely to accomodate the driveshaft.

It is used mainly on weekends but i do commute in it sometimes, but it drives well, it doesn't catch on speed bumps unless it is a nasty b****d!!

I'm fitted 8x13" ATS Classics to it so its gonna have to be low, but even at it's curretn drop which must be over 100mm it doesnt look low and doesnt feel any different to drive than my Tin Top on just uprated shocks and springs.

I think i might get some stiffer front springs though, as the Cab is heavier than the Tin Top but Koni only do one set for both where as others do two different sets.
