Removing servo from Mk1 GTi

Ok, my servo just went bang and it looks like I'm not going to find a new one.  I don't want to go the upgrade route at the moment so I was wondering whether it's possible to do away with the servo, bolt the MC to where the servo would have been and go with no servo assist.

I'd appreciate some opinions on this and, at the same time if someone has a good servo they want to flog I'll have it.  I'm not paying 165 quid to get mine refurbed when the car hasn't even made it to MOT yet after 6 years living in a hedge.

Man! I have replaced the running gear completely on this car and this is the one bit that hasn't been replaced.  Sods law says it's gonna be the hardest bit to find hey??

Get a 9" one from a mk2 golf 16v, good upgrade, should be well documented on here somewhere.
