Recommend me a suspension ?

Hi folks.

Our '91 Clipper has lowered springs (35mm i think) on standard dampers and I just dont feel that they are matched too well on the road.  It can get quite bouncy at times.

Basically, Im after either a spring/shock or coilover setup that will still keep it lowered but also have a ride that is not too jarring and bouncy at times.

So far ive seen Jamex shocks and springs for around ?150 which i thought was reasonable.

Can anyone recommend any set-up that is not silly money ??

Thanking you in advance.

Cheers, B. :D

You get what you pay for when it comes to suspention.
I would recommend saving up and buying Koni TA dampers combined with Eibach lowering spring.

hi stretch, thanks for info, ill have a look into how much the TA's and eibachs are.  Have you any idea of a good place to buy them from ?

Does anyone else have any different recommendations?

Also, are these Bilsteins a good buy or no good? …

Your problem is that for a DECENT setup, almost all the better kits are designed with spring rates for the hatchback. Of course, it will fit, and be marketed for the cabby, but the spring rates are optimised for the hatch. I say almost, I don't know of any kit which is specific for the cabby, but there might be some out there.

The GTI is 20mm lower than the Clipper isn't it? Have you thought about standard cabriolet GTI suspension? It would be well matched to the car and not too harsh.

Hi Paul, cheers for your reply.  Im not that fussed if the kits are for hatch or cabby, the car only gets lightish use (it doesnt get thrashed) and im sure they would be an improvement over whats fitted at the mo.
I hadnt really thought about a GTi suspension and i like the idea.  do you mean new parts or second hand?

i like the idea if i could get the parts new but im not keen if the only option would be to buy tired second hand parts.

Thanks again

Any more recommendations folks??
