If you are removing the rear axle from the car. CLEAN UP THE THREADS of the mounting bolts on the car. Get them shiney like new before you attempt to remove the 4 17mm nuts. Then use lots of penetrating oil and remove them very carefully winding backwards and forwards as you take them off. These bolts have a tendency to snap off and replacing them is a ?mare, involving hacking holes in the body to access the box section and re-welding in replacements. You have been warned!
If you are just removing the rear spring the bottom shocker bolt usually rusts in and needs to be hack sawed off, get replacement bolts before you start. If the springs are standard ones you can mange to remove them without a spring compressor but I would use one to be extra safe.
