Rear suspension bushes
Got the rear axle of my GTI (no snapped threads ) to do MOT welding. Have no gone crazy cleaning up rear beam and decided may as well repalce bushes, anyone know if these (strut to axle, axle hinges and anti roll bar) all still available from VW?
Also has anyone fitted polyurethane bushes to the rear? are they worth the extra money (assume would need to the front as well)?
Cheers

All still available from VW but not cheap i used genuine bushes on the roll bar and polyurethane bushes on the axle mounts . Makes the car feel much better but that may be down to being new i have since found out that you can buy all the bushes from some where like http://www.bigboystoys-uk.com/ so it might be worth a price comparison to see what works out best .
When reading a restoration article in one of the many VW mags it stated that the rear axle mount bushes due to so little movement never need replacing but the rest do ? They are a pig to remove and clean up .
Cheers……

Assume you meant this http://www.bigboystoys-uk.com/ link - other was for the 'Quadzilla', looking at getting one Chudd?
Bugpack ones look quite affordable (anyone used these?). GSF have a mk1 golf poly bush kit listed at around ?65, not sure who makes it will have to check it out. The rear axle hinge bushes do have a few cracks in them - suppose its best done while I've got the axle off :borg:

I used Bugpack poly rear beam mounts, but I wouldn't recommend them. They were a bit thinner than the std. bushes and I had to use 2 washers in order to get them sitting as they should.
You'll need to cut the old rubber bushes out of the brackets and get rid of the rubber that's left with a wire brush on a drill. Bit messy but not difficult

NB - if you decide to do the front ones be VERY careful about the front mounting bolt for the wishbone. It's welded to the inside of a chassis beam (accoding to the manual), so if you bugger the thread up - you'd have to open up the beam, replace the nut, then weld it all back together again. 8O

If anyone is after Poly bushes then we sell SuperFlex ones. Not as cheap as Bug stuff but cheaper than Powerflex, and better quality too !!
