Check the brake cylinders for leaks, just pop the rubbers off a bit, its supposed to be dry inside.

Try adjusting both sides till you hear them rub slightly when you spin the drum.

I would also give the shoes a good rub down with a bit of sand paper.

When you say you adjusted the piston and shoes……where exactly did you adjust? There is a self-adjuster which is a little wedge on the bracketry between the shoes and the backing plate, but these often seize or don't work so need to be adjusted manually. And most of the time they fail in the under-adjusted sense, not binding.

Its possible its something else at issue, if they've just started binding…..is your handbrake cable adjusted properly (ie backed off fully when the lever is down), etc .

this first happened after my friend set the brakes up for me when the new mastercylinder and fluid was fitted.  bothe rear cylinders/pistons are new.
I know that my friend should really sort it for me but he is about 10 miles away plus i could do with learning!

OK this is a photo of the good side that spins freely

when i adjusted the other side all o did was try to move the shoes in a way that would stop them rubbing the inside of the drum.

paul can yo see the self adjuster in this photo, so i can check the one on the other side?

cheers

The self adjuster wedge is behind the shoe on the left, connected to the vertical spring in the pic.
