In an old copy of VW Motoring they showed you how to do a conversion on mk2 rear calipers to put a grease nipple on them so as they wouldnt keep ceasing up. I must have it some where, does any one else remeber this?
Mk3's were the next best option as they didnt have problems with ceasing and are direct replacements. Have to admit i have now idea if mk4 items will fit ??? :dontknow:

Have to admit though, after having rear discs on my mk1 for 6 years i found them no better than my drums on my other mk1.

Drum brakes are ok on the golfs,if you want reliability then fit mk3 golf rear wheel cylinders as they are aluminium and dont corrode internally like the cast iron ones and so last alot longer without the dreaded leaks,my diesel and citigolf have alloy cylinders and are fine, same bore size so same pressure acting on the shoes.

Thats not a rod knockin, its a diesel stupid! floppy top and 1 tin top

Agree - no need to upgrade the rear - I like the Mk3 alloy cylinder option  :D
