rear brake lines

Has anybody replaced the flexible hose on the right rear?
Started replacing the flexible brake lines on my GTI campaign with goodrich braided  hoses. Was complaining about how cramped access was on the left side, but then I got to the right hand side - there's no room because of the tank on the rear union and the fuel pump on the forward one. Even if I can get the spanners on the unions there is no room to move them :banghead:

Is there a clever way of doing this?

Please help.

Undo the axle bolts and drop the axle - should give you enough room.  Put plenty of release spray on the axle bolts as they are prone to shearing off.

Ooohh! That sounds scary.
Do you reckon it could be done in the limitation of the garage with the vehicle on stands? Or is it time to visit my friendly mechanic, who has hoists etc?
The Haynes manual describes removing drums. hand brake cables,  Hydraulic lines   and top strut mounting nuts… Is the axle beam secured by just the four nuts - and that's all I need undo?
