Rear brake drums 'clunking'

…for want of a better word.

Swapped the wheels on my mk1 cabby because of a puncture, the car's been stood for a couple of weeks, went to drive away and heard this almighty clunking/grinding noise from the rear.

Jacked up the back, released the handbrake and spun them by hand.  Both are catching but the N/S/R grinds to a halt on each rotation and needs some serious effort to push round.  It's not the new wheels - they're standard 4 stud VW - and they're not catching anywhere.

Do the brakes need adjusting maybe?  The handbrake?  Don't understand what's changed in the two weeks since she was last driven :dontknow:

Cheers in advance,

Sounds like your wheel bolts are too long and are catching on something inside - are you definitely using the right wheel bolts with the wheels you are using? Standard alloys and steels use different bolts.

Ahhh no way!

I pulled off two grotty looking little spacers and threw them into the back of the shed!  I guess they werent just for aesthetics.
