questions

going to road and sport this week coming for a possible 20v swap. but need some advice, gonna change the shot jamex suspension, as i've been told the shocks are doing anything.. . what would be a good set up to go for. i've had pss9's on a mk4 before, but dont really want the coilover route.. too hard. it's only a weekend car. Also will the 16v servo and master cylinder conversion cope with 20v power?.  on a completely different note, how many people have converted to TDI, many tuners are going down this route on modern cars with good results
bhp and mpg, cant be a bad thing. also is it possible that the power steering rack/setup from a cabby can be swapped into a tin top?.  :D

Suspension - Im happy with coilovers so can't really suggest springs etc

Brakes - the 16V servo and master cylinder doesn't add any more braking power as such, since its still the same discs and pads. All it does it shortens the stroke (due to the bigger MC) and makes it less effort to press (due to the bigger servo). 256mm or 280mm discs would be more sensible - how much power is the 20vT you're going for? Keep ther rears drums, no value in upgrading to discs really.

TDI - a few people have done it but with the Mk1 Golf being a light car, doesn't really benefit from being diesel as much as a heavier car does. Basically when you tune the diesel to go faster, the power is delivered lower down which means there is in fact more torque, which overwhelms the tyres and you just spin the wheels more, rather than accelerating any quicker. Also its a costly option to go down. Sure, for a larger car such as the Mk4 it makes more sense.

Having said that, I'd be interested to hear of any high power diesels around, and welcome stats on 0-60 times and 1/4 mile run, to illustrate how it compares against the stock GTI or another engine conversion.
