Pushrod gone?

hi
i was driving home earlier and my clutch cable snapped on the pedal end, so i went and bought a new cable
fitted it but when i pushed the peddle down it was too easy to push like it wasent doing anything at all
and when i turned the car on i couldnt engaged any gears at all. I went up the a vw garage that was close and asked
what he thought it was and he said its either the pushrod has gone through the clutch or something in the gearbox
has broken.
anyone have any ideas what it could be any what i should be looking at money wise to fix it?

cheers
kai

I had this once.
It turned out to be the lever that operates the pushrod/release bearing under the cover on the end of the box had split.
Quite a simple fix in the end

Wow never heard of that before, must of been very old and worn or just very unlucky !!

On the plus side you should have a much lighter clutch now :-)
