problem getting into first gear

hello,
i have a 87 cabriolet.
one minute i can get into first gear no problem the next its impossible to get into it.
any suggestions?

do you know if its easy to repair? or is it a garage job?

Hi mate sorry to jump in… I changed the whole gear linkage as a newbie but if your not confident then don't do it (only way to learn though  :dontknow: ).  A garage should be quite cheap (to them it'll be a walk in the park).

I tried it… now I'm trying an engine rebuild… if only he had a guide for that too lol !!!

If you try it then make sure you mark the rod under the car (where it fit's into the spline socket so you can put it back the same way afterwords)… cost me ?17 I think and I learnt a lot… got more confident too…. it's up to you  :dontknow:

I had the same problem. The bushes on one of the gear linkages was worn out.  

Bought the linkage repair kit from GSF (u can also buy it from ebay). About ?5. Replaced all of the bushes. Now its perfect.
