i currently have g60 steels which are either 35 or 38 and scrub the fronts. want new wheels but with a decent offset.
thanks. whats every one elseoffset with alloy wheels.  splities/wide wheels mainly?

Isnt the correct size ET38? I have just bought alloys from a company who advised me that is the right offset for a mk1.

yeah that sounds right to me. i checked mine  and they are et35. would this mine they sit further in or out.
am i right in thinking they woul sit further in.
and if et45 for e.g! the arch would sit on the tyre!

the smaller the et the more they stick out, et 38 was the correct mk1 size for the 5 and 1/2 alloys fitted.

thanks mate.
what et would i be looking at with a 7"wide wheel. or do i try and keep it the same?
would not go smaller than a 195 tyre though

i run et 25 on the front and 20 on the back on my cabby brings the wheels out flush with the arch

i do get some scrubbing on front and rear tho

i run 7x15 et 35, moderately lowered at 25mm as i actually want to use the car, no rubbing any where.

i'm running 7 x 15 with 25et  which looks good, but not happy with the handling, might look for something smaller :?

you think that 7's dont help? ive only ever had 195's on 6" inch rim so wouldnt know other wise.
or the et is giving handling problems?

think it's a few things, et 25 is not helping, 7" wide is making the car tramline and the weight!!!
car would be better with my vw bottle tops 6 x 14 back on but they don't look as good  :banghead:

yeah x2 on your tyre size? how do the arhs compare from cabbys to a gti? or is it the plastic trim which gives it the extra width?
i would of thought 1.5 degrees would be to much!!
i have mine set at 0.5 -ve.
i want it to hndle mint would you reccomend 1.5?
the back end is a bit twitchy on mine!! any ideas for that. i will be changing the subframe bushes soon and it has a strut brace. will be getting another which bolts to the chassis though!

195/50 tyres, the roll bars were all std mk1 gti sized, and i fitted a lower strut brace, that was it! it wasnt lowered much if at all, used std gti springs and new boge shocks all round. 1.5- is what a lot of the guys recommened for my MK2, and after searching around on here it was mentioned a couple of times for the mk1 as well.  The plastic arches dont help at all, underneath them the wings are still the same shape.

I used one of those magnetic camber gauges though, so cant say how accurate it was. It was the same both sides at least :D

this is how it turned out:

might give that a whirl on the 4 wheel alignment machine when its on the road.
have to jack it up and down so many times to get it right!
does it not eat through tyres?
thanks for the info jonny
