offset help please!

ive been told that the typical offset for a golf is 34 to 38. however , can anyone tell me the maximum offset to push the face of the wheel out of or up to the arches without having to roll them or any catching. the cars gonna be low but not sure how far yet.

Depends on how low the car is and how wide the wheels are.

Forget it then, even the standard wheels will rub at 100mm lowered. At 80mm, 5.5J (standard) will just about be okay but 6J will rub.

You can't run 100mm lowered with 6J tyres. If you play about with the offset too much (and you'll need to, to avoid the suspension strut) then you'll mess up the suspension geometry AND you'll need to make extensive mods to the arches. If you went for skinnier tyres then you may as well use narrower rims with those tyres on, with the wider wheels you'd still have the issue with the rim hitting the suspension strut, maybe it will just clear with a narrower rim.

Reasonable suggestion - air?

Its always best to stick with factory offset, or not go too far from it, for suspension geometry reasons. Have you told your insurers you have/going to fit alloys, and their size? And the lowering?
