No Reverse?

will not engage into reverse ?

disconnected the linkage and tried with some moll grips on the gear box arm thing but no reverse is it the end?

Have you driven the car forwards a bit since you discovered you had no reverse?? My old mk1 that I had about 4 yrs ago lost reverse, but it re-appeared after I drove it forwards a bit. Think it must have been pure bad luck that the gearbox was just in the wrong position for reverse gear to engage. Never had it happen before, and never had it happen on any car since, very strange, but it did happen!

yes drove it home about 5 miles after discovering the problem?

Recently lost 5th & R. found out it was the Shift rod came loose, after i tried everything else!

I've had this before a few old cars i've owned quite often need knocking into first gear before selecting reverse smoothly !!
