New on here, bit of advice please...

Hi, im new on here having bought myself my first mk1 a couple of weeks ago. Its a 1983 1.3 driver, i will get some pics up soon. Im looking for a bit of advice. The golf only has a 4 speed box, and i was wondering if the 5 speed box off of the 1990 1.6 diesel caddy i have will fit on the golf? Ant help will be much appreciated.  Lee

Simple answer - no.

You need a polo 1.3 gearbox, I believe the 'box code is 8P

I have one in my Driver and it works well, although the performance is down in 4th and 5th because of the taller gearing.

There is an engine and 5-speed 'box for sale in engine and running gear for sale.. maybe you could get him to split
