Need a LHD servo and advice

Hi,

I've got a LHD Mk1 Golf and the brakes are rubbish - makes a difference from the RH drivers thinking it's all down to the linkage eh ?
Either the servo (with arm and clevis pin extending to the pedal) is knackered (and that's never happened to me yet) or all the various master cylinders I've got lying around don't match the servo well since my disks are panic-inspiring at the moment.
I bought the car off Tim Stiles with some spares thrown in, amongst them a spare master cylinder, so stuck it on and have had no luck with the brakes ever since.
I'm guessing I need another master cylinder or servo then, which is where the fun comes in since I've got to try and find one from an early LHD A1 chassis car, or get another VAG one (with matching m/c) and weld the right length arm/pin on it .. am I thinking along the right lines and can anyone see another solution or something wrong in the theory ?

Thx for reading,

Olly

Are they different??

Just cheked ETKA for a '78 - servos are different but master cylinders are the same as far as I can tell between lhd and rhd

I guess that I never actually bought one, instead having pulled them off similarly aged Jettas and early passats and having a spare ~(new in plastic) one with the car.
I'll go and buy a new Golf Mk1 one from GSF (unless otherwise advised .. ?) then and report back. I should email Tim as well and find out if it is the original servo.
Are there that many variations between the m/c's then because I've tried a few ?

Thx

Update -

Put a new mk1 master cylinder on it and still nothing much up front, just the sound of disks being scratched gently .. might try another set of calipers up front but I suppose I should now be looking for a new LHD servo from the continent. Anyone got any good foreign sources apart from ebay ?

Thx
