Mystery noise at speed

I'm getting a noise that occurs when above 40 mph and it's getting more frequent. It's like a humming/muffled whining noise. The gearbox has recently had an over hall and it was doing it before that also. The noise doesn't go when i dip the clutch and 've checked there's oil in the gearbox. It seems to be coming from the passenger front wheel/gearbox area but i'm not 100%, I spun the passener front wheel round when checking the oil on the gearbox and there's no obvious noises from the bearing.

Any ideas?

wheel bearing bud. you might not hear it when you spin the wheel as it's not going fast enough. either that or your tyres are flat

noises which appear to be coming from the front sometimes arent!! rear wheel bearings have a habbit of tranfering the noise through suspension components and give that impression.

You may need to nip up the rear bearings to take a wee bit of slack out and see if that cures/helps it, rear bearings are far easier to change than fronts too

jack it up and check for play by holding top and bottom of wheel and wiggle the wheel back and forth, a small amount of movement (few mm) is ok as they are taper bearings and need the slack to run correctly, any more than that they need nipping up on the centre nut,  if they have ever been over tightened it can cause premature wear and failure.

Would i not get any indication that it had gone from spinning wheel off the ground? Any tell tale signs to look for?

Thanks

wheel wont be spinning fast enough for you to hear. read totr's for tell tale signs. front wheel bearings tend to change pitch as you corner as wheel is rotateing faster/slower in a corner.
