warped disk? did you put the retaining screw back in (probably a stupid question but worth asking).
By the way moved to running gear - correct section so hopefully more help will come along.

retaining screw wouldnt make a difference as the disc will be held on by the wheel.
do they need fitting kits for the clipper calipers like they do on the 1.3s wit girling claipers?

not a 100% sure but on my mk3 golf they have little shims/packers that hold pads in these rusted away which caused the pads to rattle . dont know if mk1s have them cause havent looked but it might be a possiblity

that would be my guess too. gsf do fitting kits for all the mk1 brake set ups.

ive replaced everything but the hole caliper its self and the heat shield ,is there blue plastic things that slide in the retainer holes as there where some on it before but my garage said that they never seen them before would these be the shims/packers

from my experience (which is limited on mk1 brakes) the 1.3 driver calipers have 'shims' that are held in place by the pins that go through the discs and calipers they were a cross shape on mine dunno if thats any use. :dontknow: like i say gsf stock the fitting kits so just ring them and see if they stock one if you go into the stroe you'll be able to have a butchers at there screen and see what they look like….

Apols for going back to basics.
Looking through looks like yours is a 1.8 clipper. Ive put a couple of pics below, one showing the anti rattle clips, which youve mentioned a couple of times and one showing the pads, just so you can check.
When you fitted the pads in the carriers where did they seem a very snug fit, ie very little movement. Cerrtainly was with myn.
If thats the case can only think the caliper bolts need checking or something else disturbed.

I have this same problem. Where did you find the rubber bushings? Or did you improvise something?
