my 9 spokes back from powdercoaters

Picked them up this afternoon, well happy with them, although you can see some small blemishes where old lead weights for balancing used to be, but other than that…

the pics don't really do them justice.

question what is the ideal tyre size for these, or what was the original?

cheers

Nice job! Original tyres would have been 175/70/R13. High profile, but comfy

They look brilliant mate, nice job. How much did they set you back? I assume you did the prep yourself.

No prep really, although in hindsight i wished i'd smoothed off the lead weight marks, not really an issue though unless its a trailer queen and people be looking with a magnifying glass

They tidied up the edges for me too blasted and coated for ?25 a rim +vat

It's not just about comfort v looks.   It's also about 'legs', and even handling.

Things to consider…what sort of driving are you doing?  What are the roads like where you drive?

Standard fitment on a 13" was 185/70.  Moving to 185/60's will, yes, give you slightly better looks, in a way (They'll look a bit silly and small on the car, but look better on the wheel, if you see what I mean)(very , but also a smaller circumference, so shorter gearing, quicker acceleration, more noise on the motorway, an (even more) over optimistic speedo, higher petrol consumption.  It'll also give you less flex in cornering, more immediate turn in.  Less bump absorption, so, on bumpy roads, more bounce, less traction, less roadholding (on the bumps).  Slower lap times on very) bumpy tracks, quicker times on smooth ones

Probably slower travelling in shitties as you go over all the polution humps (speed bumps).

Hope this helps,

Al

Me, if I wanted 60 profiles, I'd go to 14", for 50's I'd use 15" (can then fit nice big brakes…..)

Diesel Dubber is correct….standard set up on non campaign GTI's was 175/70 HR. The 14" Pirelli rims on campaigns received 185/60's. Then the rolling radius of each set up remained the same.
