MOT URGENT HELP

My Mk1 Golf Sportline just failed its MOT! Problems are:

Offside CV Gator, not a huge problem.

Washers pump, Didn't check this but could it be a fuse? I know silly not to check first but totally forgot. If so any idea how much?

Now the biggie!

A fuel leak from the back somewhere? The guy didn't check where it was from but worst case is a new tank, any idea for costs for that and the above work?

Sorry panicy newbie here!

Thanks

Angus

Re: MOT URGENT HELP

Sorry Angus only just noticed this.  It'd probably be better to put it in one of the technical sections for help or even MK1 chat.  Maybe why no one has replied yet fella  :dontknow:

Mate for the above I'd first check that it's not frozen.  Do you use de-icer in your washer bootle.?.. If you top up with water then all the anti-freeze may have been used cleaning your screen therefore the system is frozen?  Especially in this weather.

If it really is the pump then GSF or another supplier will have one at hand for you.  Not sure on cost but check their website (GSF link on the left) for an idea of price.

Again a new tank can be bought from GSF so check their site for guide line prices.  I beleive crazy quiff also do these (also a link on the left)

Hope this helps even if only a bit  :dontknow:

If its a Sportline it will be a later cabby, they changed in 1984 or something. Not sure if you need to remove the axle to get the newer (larger) style of tank out. I know it bolts in instead of straps, which might be an issue in itself. Having said that, there's so many pipe connections etc its possible the leak could be cured without dropping the tank. Worth giving a good look at it underneath, then degreasing/cleaning it up.

My fault didnt read it properly, changed my tank on an 88 cabby without taking axle off.

Undo the axle at the pivot points and you can get just enough movement to get it out!
