MOT fail on handbrake clip?

Hey boys and girls!

My sportline failed its MOT on one clip!? Aparently its the clip that holds the handbrake cable solid by where it enters the drum. Not having this  clip is causing the cable to move back and forth thus giving weak rear offside breaking efficiency!

I have had a look on vagcat but i'm not 100% sure which bit I need.

I am thinking number 2, 23 or 24. 2 is listed as a plug? could this be the rubber grommet/plug that the cable goes through?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sorry I can't help but on such a 'minor' part but couldn't the MOT garage source it and fit it for you?

I have two brand new handbrake cables to go on so I thought I may as well get the clip done too this weekend.

Sometimes the bent metal clip that holds the cable to the trailing arm rusts away. Replace with a cable tie.

I'd double check everything and adjust the self adjusting wedge with a pointy screw driver thru a wheel bolt hole and then adjust cable inside at handle end.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

There's plenty of parts which fit inside a matchbox but which can render your car useless - for example banjo bolt on the fuel injection…clips and rods for brake pedal and linkage………hall sender plug……etc

If you can't figure the missing part from the diagram, then you could always look at the other side and see what's missing.

Well… I put my new cables on the other day and cabled tied the crap out of both sides. The cables don't move a single mm now. She passed on the retest so I'm happy.

The tester said the clips went on the inside of the drum. Think he is getting confused with another car maybe.

Thanks for your help guys.
