It's ok if you have something up front aswell or use bias valves etc as back end locks up nicely with discs. And as for what you need it's been covered plenty recently and even step by steps posted up.

Mk2 golf stub axles, for discs.
Mk2/4 callipers and carriers
Obviously discs and pads which I'd buy new for the price.
May aswell do bearing at same time they press into the disc.
Rocco 16v handbrake cables.
Need to fiddle around getting hoses etc or buy goodridge mk1 rear disc set (£50-60)
For one of the bolts into stub axle you'll have to precisely hammer away a small part of the rear beam (you'll see when trying to get bolt in.

I'd also be looking at getting servo and m/c updated if not already done so. And the only difference on mk2 mk4, is the handbrake mechanism. I've got mk2 and never seized on me yet.

Yeah 13" should be ok. There 226mm or 229mm so smaller than the vwii upfront which are 239 and 13" are fine with them.

I would do something to send less pressure to back though. I've had mine out a few times under heavy breaking. Soon gunna put a bias valve in but there are easier, cheaper options.
