mk4 Polo 256mm brakes onto mk1 Convertible?

I've been offered a set of free mk4 (6n) Polo 1400cc callipers, 256mm discs and pads as a friend is upgrading his for something bigger.

He seems to think that their the same brakes as were fitted to the mk2 Golf 16v GTi.

Does this sound right? Are they likely to fit my '85 convertible?

Can I fit the Polo calliper carriers to the mk1 hubs?

And will the brake lines be suitable?

The mk2 Golf has a different bolt pitch to the mk1 and the mk4 Polo shares parts with the mk2…….

The calipers may be OK if you find the correct Audi carriers or you could just fit the 16V Astra calipers. The discs should fit.
