Mk1 cab, want power steering
As per the subject line, I want to convert our mk1 cab 1.8 to power steering.
I have been told that the only thing that will 'go straight on' (I use this term loosely) is the power steering from a mk2 scirocco.
Is this correct, have you done it, and how long did it take ?
Carl.

I'm pretty sure no RHD mk1 chassis had power steering from the factory
and no-one really seems to know what bits are used in conversions, there was talk of a nissan bluebird rack being used ….?
I also read discussions about using electric power steering from the likes of a corsa…
there are a few possibilitys around so good luck and do keep us informed if you find anything

I think the UK importers commissioned a firm to fit PAS to a few of the later Cabriolets, but again the details have been lost in the mists of time...
1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet
The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

As we found out……
top mounts not worn - the Clipper was knackered and replacing these made one heck of a difference…….
correct tyre pressures……
correctly set camber and tracking….cannot be done correctly if top mounts are worn…..
…did not need power steering - nice and light even when parking……..
