Mk1 ABF Gear linkage problem...HELP!
Im running a mk2 golf 16v gearbox on my ABF engine in my mk1 golf, but the gear linkage is too short. I thought because i was using a 020 gearbox i wouldnt need to change anything? Am i going to need the linkages from a mk2 16v?

What car did you start out with and which bit is too short?

The gear selector is too short. Its a 1.6 Mk1 Gti With an ABF engine and Mk2 16v gearbox

did you fit all the mk1 linkage bracket and rods to the mk2 box? was the car a 4 or 5 speed before the swap?

I dont think all the brackets were all changed over to be honest. The origional mk1 gearbox was a 5 speed.

The entire Mk1 Golf linkage would need to be used, so if you're missing parts, or have the Mk2 items instead, then it won't work. I don't suppose you still have the old engine/box to look at? Or is it a case of trying to identify what's missing?

Only the mounting was changed over from the Mk1 to the Mk2 gearbox. Everything is fine except the rod on the left in the photo below is too short.
I just wondered if i used the rod from a Mk2 it would work.
